When I am finally King
by Joe Anderson

"No one dreams of being
mma committee member
mmmwhen they grow up."

We grow up longing to be King
--- for the perks, the popularity, the power. But mostly, because we just know, down deep in the very fiber of our being, that we could do it better . It's what filled our dreams as a kid; and it's what still gets us out of bed on occasion. It IS the American Dream --- "If I ever get there, I'm gonna - - - "

But most Kings are duds. Somehow, they've lost whatever dream once fueled them. They sold too much of themselves on their way to the throne. Or squelched too much. Or stepped on, or lopped off, too many toes during their quest. So they spend their time in petty self protection or revenge.

The only King worth being, is one who remembers his dream once he achieves the throne. Alexander the Great dreamed of an assimilated empire, and as a result gave us western civilization. The consuls of the Roman Republic dreamed of a system of paved roads and aqueducts, which moved humanity from the farm to the city and brought about the rise of the Roman Empire. . And in 392 AD Emperor Theodosius granted Christianity a monopoly in the Roman Empire - unleashing, for better or worse, 1800 years of history. The question for you, therefore, is this ---

- - - What's your dream?
